Do you know that coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world just behind the oil?
Do you know Malaysians drink 2 to 3 cups of coffee per day?
Coffee has been integrated in our lifestyle and the growth of Malaysia as coffee-drinking nation is real. Haven’t you noticed the booming coffee shops business in Malaysia? In our travel, we always seek for a coffee experience. We seek comfort in the smell and taste of a cup of coffee in foreign lands. I would spare you my coffee adventures abroad as I intend to address on coffee culture in Malaysia. In conjunction with International Coffee Day, I was invited by 11street and Nescafe for a workshop on the art of coffee.
First off, 11street is a new online marketplace in Malaysia, established in April 2015. 11street is originally a leading e-commerce company in South Korea. 11street has a diverse selection of product categories such as Fashion, Electronics, Groceries, Health & Beauty, Kids & Baby, Leisure & Sports, Home & Living and Books & Services.
Nescafe does not need any introduction. I would just briefly tell you the history of Nescafe. Nescafe coffee originated in Brazil in the 1930s as an early example of innovation and sustainable development. Today, Nescafe coffee, in particular, its aroma, quality and flavour, is enjoyed by consumers around the world. One of the many products of Nescafe is a cafe-style beverage machine known as Nescafe Dolce Gusto. It comprises of easy-to-use machines and convenient capsules with a patented smart capsule technology that optimises the extraction pressure to create delicious cafe-style beverages in the convenience of the home or office.
So, what happens when Nescafe meets 11street? Evolution of coffee supply and demand chain. We now can have Nescafe coffee delivered on our doorsteps. The beauty of e-commerce. Further, Nescafe is able to connect directly with younger coffee lovers and offer them a platform to educate the consumers on ‘the art of coffee’.
Educate how, you may want to ask. Two weeks ago, a friend of mine asked if I could buy her some coffee from Vietnam. When asked if she wanted beans or powder, she answered 3-in-1 because she does not know how to prepare a tasty cup of coffee. My friend is an addict as far as coffee is concerned. Don’t you want brand like Nescafe to share fun recipes with consumers and inform about combo purchases that make the whole coffee experience a lot more fun? This is how the education set in.
As I’m writing this, I can’t get my mind off the Nescafe Dolce Gusto and the many flavour capsules they have. Such a cool machine. Here are some of the pictures from the workshop. In the meantime, let me enjoy the new Nescafe Mountain Wash, another new product of Nescafe.
Bandung rose coffee in the making.
