Believe it or not, trekking in Kerala is one of the best activities to engage in Kerala. Kerala lies along the mountain chain known as the Western Ghats which is known for its exceptionally high level of biodiversity. At least 325 globally threatened species occur in the Western Ghats. No wonder the Western Ghats is a recognize UNESCO area that traverses through Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
As part of Kerala Blog Express activities, we had the opportunity trekking in Papathy Shola (Butterfly Forest) in Munnar. It is one beautiful trek in Kerala. Here are some of the pictures from trekking in Kerala.
Beautiful Trek in Kerala
One can easily mistake the views to that of a European country. The view was refreshing as the horizon unveiled the kaleidoscopic colours of tropical climate rainforest.
Looking on the Suryanelli Camp, Munnar which is one of the options for the beautiful trek in Kerala. According to Shadeep of Kalypso Adventures, they can organize day trip, multi-days trek and trekking across Kerala. They also organize biking trip. If you are visiting Munnar and want to do the beautiful trek of Kerala, keep in touch with the guys from Kalypso Adventures.
All set for the beautiful trek of Kerala, the Papathy Shola.
We walked through the savannah that had little trees. You may want to bring a hat/cap and loads of sunscreen when you trek.
Beautiful as it is, the meandering lake surrounded the trekking trail. It is a reason for the many picture taking stops that I made.
There were many switchbacks with two peaks. This was taken from the first peak.
Watch your steps and help out whenever possible. Our guide Shadeep helped us throughout the journey.
The ultimate view from the trekking was the view from the second peak. Part of the fields looked like the shape of a butterfly. I thought that was the reason why the trekking trail is known as Butterfly Forest. Apparently, the Butterfly Forest got its name from the frequent sighting of many species of butterfly in the morning. Since we started trekking quite late, I did not see any butterfly at all.
