Wherever I travel, children are my favourite subject to shoot. It is interesting how children are being brought up at different places. Unlike in other South East Asia countries where sight of foreign travellers is common, Burmese kids are more natural in the way they approach travellers. They adore you. They stare direct into your eyes. They call out ‘hello’ and ‘hi’ from far and run away when you get close. They close their faces when you zoom your lense under their noses. They are shy.
I like them the way they are. I pray for the Burmese kids will remain the same even after the bloom of tourism industry in Myanmar. I pray they will be the happy children posing shyly in front of the camera and never the desperate children asking for money if we accidently shoot his pictures.
These are some of the kids I met along the way from Kalaw to Inle Lake. Are not they adorable?
