The Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary or Taman Rama-rama & Reptilia Melaka is only a walking distance from Philea Resort & Spa.
The sanctuary houses collection of common and exotic birds, crocodiles, alligators, tortoises, lizards, iguana and many more. We were welcomed by happy chirping lovebirds of many colours. We were then introduced to bearded dragon (kadal berjanggut); an animal I just got to know in Melaka. Next door was albino peacock which was at all time showing its back to the guests.
If you have a sense of adventure, do grab the chance of taking pictures with albino burmese python or the baby python. They won’t bite, promised the sanctuary keeper. The baby phyton was so cute that it curled around the neck like a tie.
Moving on, we entered into a photo section whereby guests will be able to capture a moment or two with a huge iguana. There was also 1947 old motorcycle on the background.
The butterfly area although not as huge as those in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka, you will get to see many types of butterflies flying over your head or fingers. The setting for the butterfly area was that of a garden.
Out from the butterfly garden, one will enter the Koi River Valley. The man-made river is in abundance of colourful koi fishes. You could purchase the fish food to feed the koi.
Next section was the reptile section where we get to see the scorpions, the tortoises, lizards, alligators, crocodiles. Some of the reptiles were imported as far as South America.
The walk around the sanctuary was a leisure one albeit the scorching hot sun.
At the end of the walk, there is a souvenir shop. Don’t miss out the crafts. They are quite cheap actually for a detailed craft like that.
