We chanced the Camera Museum at Jalan Muntri when we were about to start our DIY heritage trail from our hostel at Muntri House (not to be confused with its luxury sister of Muntri Mews). What a cool museum it is. It was very early in the morning so we had the whole museum to ourselves to explore. Fret not if you have never heard of it in Penang. It is very new in the sense that it has yet to be launched. Rumours has it that the launch will be held in August. Nevertheless, it had been used for Georgetown Festival Event of Obscura.
As we walked into the museum, we were impressed with the exhibitions as well as the camera-related murals. It was as if the walls were talking to you convincing you how camera affects your lives. Every picture has its own story and there, every wall has its own message to you, camera lovers.
Some of the messages were deep. Imagine a world without camera. Oh well, a question I have never asked myself before. Camera has become part and parcel of our life and to some, it has become a necessity instead of luxury.
The Camera Museum focuses on photography exhibitions as well as pinhole project. Inside the Camera Museum, there is a large format 1950s camera. Apart from photography exhibitions, you may want to check the souvenir shop inside the Camera Museum. They have very nice collection of camera souvenirs. Mugs, bags, pouches, frames, home decorations, speakers, tshirts and cameras!! The cameras sold at Camera Museum come in many colours. You can also find underwater film camera here. The prices are affordable. No bargaining though.
If you are thirsty and hungry, Camera Museum does have a cafe.

Thanks for sharing. Dah hampir dua dekad saya tak menjejakkan kaki ke Penang. Dah banyak benda menarik kat sana. Last time it was just Bukit Bendera, Padang Kota and Komtar :). Anyway loves the caption about life is like a camera. Inspiring!
Hi Niza! Penang sekarang dah lain. Tu belum lagi wall murals and steel rod sculptures. Puas berjalan sebab nak mengejar benda alah ni. Nanti saya tulis yang pasal wall murals and interesting steel rod sculptures yang menyampaikan ttg sejarah Penang.

Thanks Diana! You should do the walking tour too!
I’ve been there recently, but the second floor wasn’t done with renovations though. Will you be visiting the camera museum again?
Thanks Sue Chen for visiting my blog.
Of course, I’ll visit the camera museum again! Looking forward to its many exhibitions.
