When I arrived at the Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur to experience the Christmas Eve Dinner – Colonial Cafe’s menu, I was literally walking into a historical colonial building originally designed by the Dutch architectural firm Keyes and Dowdes for the Trustees of the Estate of Loke Wan Tho, the youngest son of businessman and philantrophist Loke Yew. Taking after the neo-classical and art deco styles like many other historical buildings in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, words that come to mind is grandeur and classy. That said, Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur has long served extravagant parties and well-to-do socialites. I told myself, what better place to have a Christmast Eve Dinner or Christmas Lunch Dinner than in the English colonial styled building.
I was received by Mr. Adrian, who was to be my host throughout the dinner. As I arrived early and we had plenty of time to kill, upon knowing it was my first time at the Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Adrian offered to show me around the majestic wing. The drawing room – Colonial Cafe is known for its Sunday curry tiffin lunches and the most European of traditions, the tea dance.

Christmas Eve Dinner – Colonial Cafe, Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur
I shall not dwell so much on the part of the hotel as my main focus would be on the sumptuous Christmas Eve Dinner -Colonial Cafe for which I was pleasured to be given a chance to try. Dazzled with sparking lights, the interior of the Colonial Cafe was rife with Christmas Decorations. Brought back to the past, Colonial Cafe, Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur gives you a feel of a classic English Christmas Eve with Lamb Loin Au Gratin, Grilled Barramundi Fillet, Traditional Roast Turkey and delicious Valrhona Chocolate Indulgence Pudding are all on the five-course wine-paired Christmas Eve Dinner and Christmas Day Lunch menu.
Starting with a delicious amuse bouche of Chicken Liver Crostini Starter Wood Smoke followed by Infused Blue Mussel, Scallop and Salmon Avocado Puree, Micro Cress and Creamy Honey Mustard Dressing (paired with Dourthe N BordeauxBlanc), I was certain my taste bud would be spoilt with classy fine dining food. Everytime I spooned the starter into my mouth, they screamed extraordinary balance of taste, which is the very essence of fine dining. Each culinary presentation depicts the artistry skills of the local chef, Chef Mohamad Zaidi. His culinary masterpieces is fine dining experience in itself.

Next, came the Scottish chicken and leek soup. The thicken soup is an exemplary of well-executed simple cookery skill.
The sorbet is definitely my favourite. Fresh, smoothy orangy and the icy texture is perfect. It was a love at first bite.
Finally, the awaited main course was served. I chose Baked Salmon with Lemon and Dill Sauce and my sister had the Trio’s King Turkey Breast, sausage in blanket and herbs stuffing, served with creamy mash, minted mushy pea and red winegravy. As a salmon lover, the tender juicy taste of salmon topped with lemon and dill sauce is a perfect combo.

Christmas pudding, vanilla sauce and white chocolate ice-cream. Heavenly taste especially the classic christmas pudding. To complete the Christmas feel, a plate of christmas cookies and chocolate was also served.
