Your Sabah experience is ain’t complete if you do not visit Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park which consists of Pulau Gaya, Pulau Sapi, Pulau Manukan, Pulau Mamutik and Pulau Sulug. The marine park is named after the first prime minister of Malaysia. On the last day of the trip, we were brought to Pulau Sapi for a transfer to Pulau Gaya for the Coral Flyer Zipline.
As the registration counter for the Coral Flyer activity was still closed, we rented snorkelling gears to go snorkelling at Pulau Sapi. I didn’t find it very impressive, but it is good for beginners who want to try out snorkelling. Be careful with the biting toes fishes. Don’t step on their coral home, else you will be bitten.
Coral Flyer Zipline
Coral Flyer Zipline is the first and the world largest island to island zipline. First, you need to be present at Jesselton Waterfront jetty to be transported to Pulau Sapi. The Coral Flyer Zipline ticketing desk is located on the jetty of Pulau Sapi. We were required to sign the exemption of liability form before tickets were issued. Then, we were brought to the jetty to be transferred to Padang point, which is the starting point on Gaya Island.
At one time, only 6 people will go through the process and transferred to Padang point. I suggest you come in the right quorum. We needed to walk for a short while to the harness point, where the staff assisted us with the harness and helmet.
Then we were given a trolley each that we had to take it up with us to the starting point.
I was person no. 5 to zip down the line. To be honest, I felt butterflies in the stomach at first because I had never done island-to-island zipline before. I was concerned over my flipflop which I was wearing. I hoped it didn’t fall into the sea. Thank goodness, I was informed by the staff that they would be tying my flipflop to the trolley, so it would have a good riddance.
The view from above was stunning as I could see few layers of blue coloured sea while soft wind blew to my face. I accelerated down the zipline; I wished it went slower for I could imprint the view from high above. It took me less than 20 seconds to be in the Sapi Island again.
Tips:
1. As you near the ending point, hold your head backwards to avoid hitting the trolley. 2. If you wish to bring a digital camera, bring it anyway but make sure it is properly secured. A friend of mine even brought a monopod to capture video of himself going down the zipline. 3. You can bring your kids too because they have a tandem rig.Entry fee : RM50 per pax.
