Dear Shoppers,
I have a news to break. Something different, something interesting is coming to our backyard – our very own UNESCO Heritage Site of Melaka. It’s FREEPORT A’FAMOSA OUTLET VILLAGE. Its first phase will be opened in 2015. Freeport Outlet Limited, the 8th largest outlet operator in the world based in Central London, and a wholly owned subsidiary of A’Famosa Group has recently launched its mega project of RM190 million known as Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village.
It is said to be the first of its kind in Malaysia where the first phase will see 81 international fashion brands featured with discounted goods between 30%-7%. The project is targetting approximately 120 international fashion brands in Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village upon the completion of its second phase.
Full Price Shopping Centre vs. Outlet Centre
According to the Commercial Director of Freeport Retail, Chris Milliken in his speech at the media launch of Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village, an outlet centre is a place where international and domestic brands runs shops to sell their excess merchandise, end of season stock and manufacturing over-runs at discounted price. But they are not second-hand goods. He also assured that conventional shopping centres will not be prejudiced to the opening of the outlet centre.
Strategic Location : Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village
The location of the Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village is none other than A’Famosa Resort. What place would be more strategic than an existing golf and leisure resort. Be it a day-tripper, or family on-vacation, or passing by the North South Expressway, visitors to Freeport A’Famosa will soon have the opportunity to explore the widest range of outlet shoppng, eat at variety of food and beverage units and enjoy exhibitions and events. This will certainly add up to the number of tourists visiting A’Famosa Resort and Malacca; currently with 2 millions visitors on average and 12.26 million not including day trip travellers respectively.
As revealed during the media launch, it only takes 55 minutes from NSE’s Sg. Besi and 30 minutes from Malacca. Shuttle bus will be provided between KLIA/LCCT/Kuala Lumpur/Malacca and A’Famosa Resort. One of the catch for Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village is the free parking.
This will definitely benefit 12 million visitors who make a trio to Malacca.
I am not a shopper, but I’m excited for the soon-to-be-opened Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village. It’s closer to home than JPO. Atleast it’s more time saving for those living in Klang Valley.
Let’s wait for more news about Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village.
