There is a place that we frequent day and night during our stay in Makassar – Losari Beach. Losari Beach is located at the west of Makassar. Losari Beach is not the typical beaches you may find in Bali. It is a recreational park by the beach and situated so close to the city centre. Due to the vicinity of Losari Beach to the harbour, the beach is not suitable for swimming activity. When we reached the Losari beach for the first time, it was dark as there was a black out. But strings of stall along the main road at Losari Beach coloured the environment.
According to Ole Jie, previously, there were stalls by the beach selling grilled seafood and the famous snack of pisang epe. For some reasons, the stalls were moved to the current location which is along the main road.
Makassarians from all walks of life flock Losari Beach at all time. They come to jog, gather with family, fly kites, chat, cycle and rollerblade. This is the beach where you can watch sunrise and sunset at the same spot. Amazing right? But we were not lucky with sunset and sunrise during this trip. Ay, the weather is unpredictable these days.
Masjid Amirul Mukminin
Not far from Anjungan Losari, there stands Indonesia’s first floating mosque, Masjid Amirul Mukminin. It caters for 500 jemaah at one time. We had been informed that the mosque will only be open when it’s time for solat.
Statues at Anjungan Losari
At Anjungan Losari, there are 3 important statues of becak, phinisi and sepak takraw.
Sepak takraw is a traditional game originated from Melaka Sultanate. During wedding, the groom will be carried by three people and the groom will have to balance the takraw ball with his legs. I’m not sure if this tradition is still being carried during modern wedding.
