I was invited to experience a refreshing escapade weeks ago in Mines Wellness Hotel.
When I arrived in Mines Wellness Hotel, the participants were attending health qigong class. I had to give it a miss so that I could check-in into my room at the wellness floor.

About Mines Wellness Hotel
Mines Wellness Hotel is a resort hotel that provides perfect wellness escapade all in just 15 minutes from the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Interestingly, in support of preserving mother nature, it uses bulbs as plant pots, placing recycle bins in the vicinity of the hotel and sells recycled paper baskets. The mattresses used in Mines Wellness Hotel are made of coconut husks.
The first thing I took notice when I arrived in Mines Wellness Hotel was the vast lake in front of the hotel.
A walk around Mines Wellness Hotel was led by Mr. Edmund. There are chalets facing the lake. Have I told you that the sunset view is beautiful here? It is near the chalets row that you can find the spice garden.
The reflexology area. My mother must have loved this!
The wellness level.
As are other wellness hotels around the world, Mines Wellness Hotel also focuses on the wide range of preventive and healthcare services. The wellness centre is known as Golden Horses Health Sanctuary (GHHS). For your information, GHHS has been awarded the ‘Best Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Centre, Malaysia Spa & Welllness Awards 2011’.
Sacral Therapy
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Centre
The TCM Centre offers traditional chinese medine and naturopathic therapies such as acupuncture, body and foot tuina, cupping, scraping and moxibustion. It has successfully completed over 75,000 TCM procedures and therapies for over 50,000 patrons up to 2013. The number shows how experienced the Chinese physicians, tuinalogists and herbalists in the TCM Centre. You don’t have to doubt the accreditation of the Chinese physicians as they are certified by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Speaking of personal experience in TCM Centre, I first requested for an acupuncture procedure to be done onto my body and ayuverda procedure after that. As soon as I registered at TCM Centre, I was asked to change into a loose set of clothing and then ushered to the Chinese physician room. In Malay, we call the Chinese physian as “tabib Cina”.
She did pulse reading and provided a diagnosis whether my body was able to resist the acupuncture procedure. As soon as she knew, I would do Ayurvedic body massage after the acupuncture, she immediately suggested cupping.
The benefits of cupping are to smoothen the blood circulation and to improve ‘qi’. It also helps to relax the muscle, recharge and boost the energy.
So, I agreed on cupping procedure. Cupping is similar to Malay’s bekam only that in traditional chinese medicine, cups are used.
The cups…
I had fire cupping procedure. For the first 10 minutes, infrared lamp was places around my naval area to boost the immune system. For the first time in my life, I actually felt the flow of my blood or atleast I had imagined as such.
Later, the Chinese physician came to place the cups on my back. There was a flaming cotton ball which was placed into the cup and quickly removed and placed on my back. By placing the fire inside the cup, oxygen was removed and a small suction is created. Massage oil was then applied on my back to create a better seal. The moment the Chinese physician glided the cups on my back, I grasped the massage bed hard and struggled not to scream out loud. It was painful.
Once it was done, I had some redness and dots on my back, to which the Chinese physician associated with excess of work pressure, lack of water. Amazingly, after the procedure, my body felt light.
