When I woke up on a Saturday morning in my sleepy town of Kulim t knowing what to do, I asked my parents if they wanted to follow me to Sedim Tree Top Walk for a morning walk. They willingly obliged to their daughter’s request. It had been awhile that I went to Sedim Tree Top Walk. Coming back to Sedim Tree Top Walk, I felt lost and hardly remembered anything except from the name of a tree which was the reason my siblings and I were scolded by my father for playing fool with the name of the tree during our last visit. By the way, the tree’s name is Meranti Sarang Punai.
45 minutes away from home, Sungai Sedim is a chill and crystal clear river streaming in the midst of tropical jungle. 15 minutes inside the water will definitely send you shivering. Sungai Sedim Tree Top Walk is a part of the larger Sungai Sedim Area. Apart from the Sungai Sedim Tree Top Walk, there are picnic areas, riverside resorts, white water rafting activity, jungle trekking to the waterfalls and jungle trail to Mount Bintang.
The common picnic area is only few kilometres from the parking area. I saw a family having a picnic under a bouganvilla tree near the bridge. A bunch of teenagers were seen eating on top of the boulder overlooking the stream. It is no doubt a perfect picnic destination with family and friends.
From the main entrance, there is a T-junction before the parking space. You need to turn right into the main entrance of Tree Top Walk of Sungai Sedim. 250 metres uphill, you will reach the ticket counter which also serves the purpose of being the entrance to the tree top walk of sungai sedim.
Walking through the tree top walk made of steel, the journey took us to discover some of the extinct species of timber such as kulim, meranti, medang, and keruing. For a person who has been hiking for quite a number of years, it still amazed me looking at the huge trees and its parasites. To be honest, I did not know what is what, but the marking placed at the trunk of the tree helped in identifying the name of the trees. From the tree top walk, you can view the impressive climber plants at such height.
