Our next stop for Kedah appeared to be one of the best architecture site in the entire Kedah; that is Masjid Albukhary. Located at Jalan Langgar Alor Setar, it stands next to Souq AlBukhary which houses Giant Supermarket. The beautiful mosque is built by Yayasan Albukhary as part of Complex Al-Bukhary, which comprises of Souq Albukhary Commercial Centre, Albukhary Medical Centre, Community Centre for the Orphans and Elderly and International University of Al-Bukhary.
The man behind Yayasan Al-Bukhary is none other than Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhari, 6th most richest man in Malaysia.
Boasting motifs in hues of blue and white, Masjid Albukhary features architectural elements from prominent mosques in the Middle East. The minarets resemble the Nabawi Mosque in Madinal and the seven domes are inspired by the Shah Mosque in Isfahan while the beautiful pool is designed after the mausoleum of Imam Al-Bukhary in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
