Wet from the swim at Satang Besar Island, our boat brought us to a fishing village off Santubong. Salak Fishing Village is located within the Kuching Wetlands National Park. From far, colourful wooden houses dotted the horizon. For photographer enthusiasts, the village has vast photography subjects.
The view from the jetty. Stunningly beautiful.
Salak Fishing Village

They might not own ipads, but they laughed and giggled. They were nothing but happy.
As it was low tide, the ground in the size of football field was dry. It was not surprising to notice the rubbish scattered on the ground as it was a mangrove area. Although it might be a sore to the eyes, it was how the villagers lived their daily lives.

Love the colour!
A girl fixed a wheeled wooden carrier.
Dried fishes on net.
Men killed the time by playing carrom.
A peep into the house – a Malay girl is reciting al-Quran.

Lee Chong Wei in the making.
These girls just came back from the well which was the source of clean water for the village. They carry the clean water from the well to their houses.
At the end of the tour, we were invited for tea by the locals.

Love the pictures. Like a ‘kek lapis’ – salivatingly colourful 🙂
Best place to shoot. They seemed undisturbed by foreign presence. Quietly living their lives.
