A movie themed hotel in Munnar was something I did not expect at Munnar station. A film set reconstructed at the front lawn welcomed us to the Silvertips Munnar. The life-size posters of iconic movie stars, local and international, decorated the walls. Everything about the hotel related to either Hindi or international movies ranging from classic to current movies. There were so much to read and learn from the movies that formed the live and soul of the Silvertips Munnar. The very being of the Silvertips Munnar went back to its root when it was previously used as a movie theater.
The Location
The Silvertips, Munnar is strategically located near Munnar town on Kochi Road. One can walk to the supermart, Pizza place and a row of local shops. One can even take a stroll down the tea plantation, which was how I spent my evening.
The Silvertips Hotel : Guide Room
After being given the room key to Room 110, we found out that each room is personalised with its own movie theme. Two hands holding a rectangular symbolic of a camera with rolls of film on top replaced the standard dull looking door number. The front door identified the theme for each room making a walk around the hotel interesting. Our room had a theme of Guide, a film based on a romantic novel by R.K Narayan. The movie ranks No. 4 of Time Magazine list of Best Bollywood classics.
Our front door.
Did I tell you the movie is a tour guide? Hence the tour guide hat.
The view from our room was merely a large field, nothing special in particular. I bet some rooms have a nice view of the tea plantation. The room was huge and comfortable. The washroom was big for a room for two. Amazingly, the internet connection worked well as compared to other hotels that I stayed in Kerala.
The common area at Level 1 of the Silvertips Munnar displays variety of old school cameras.
Some of the activities you can do while staying at the Silvertips Munnar :
The Evening Walk in Munnar
Since we would not be having enough time to stroll down the Munnar town, I decided to walk at the tea plantation which ended quite tragically. I followed a pungent small road that led me to the tea plantation at the back of the Silvertips Hotel, Munnar. I wanted to walk as far back as I could before it started to drizzle.
Some locals shied away when I pointed my camera to them. Some came running towards me to ask where did I come from and what was my name. I saw some ladies draped in saree carrying firewood. I thought I would be having an evening opportunity for photography. I braved the drizzle and kept walking as I took in the greenery of the tea plantations.
Poor they may be, but never lack the conscience!
Chased by Angry Dog
A moment later, I heard a dog barking ever so loudly. I searched for the source of noise and my eyes landed on a huge farm dog. The bad news was it was running in my direction. My immediate reaction was to run for my life. There was no one on the road or in the tea plantation whom I could run for help. I was out there by myself, running for dear life from the huge dog.
I ran for life and ended at the main road where my hotel was situated. I still had plenty of time before the day got dark. So I proceeded to walk and see the local life in Munnar.
I approached the vegetable stall and boy, how healthy the fresh veg sold at the hill station.
