Imagine enjoying sumptuous fresh seafood without having to go farther than Unique Seafood 23, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. I wish someone had given me the wise words many years ago. Located in Section 13, Petaling Jaya, Google Maps route driving from Jalan Bukit Bintang, slightly before the rush hour, took me less than 30 minutes. As I arrived one hour earlier than scheduled, the friendly staff of Unique Seafood ushered me through the main area of the restaurant to the private rooms area. What appeared to be a tiny restaurant by a narrow two-lane road, is actually a huge restaurant with more than 8 private halls and connected to 4 ballrooms. Look can be deceiving.
The owner of the restaurant, Datuk Wong Keong Fook, owns the largest wholesaler of fresh live seafood in Malaysia. So, we can all say it would be difficult for the restaurant to run out of their live seafood. Have I told you, the live seafood is not restricted to those found in the Malaysian waters? Some of the imported seafood are live fishes, prawns, lobsters, Alaskan crabs, snow crabs, clams, abalones and geoducks.

The aquarium area is the main attraction in Unique Seafood PJ23.

The restaurant is pork free and lard free. The food served is halal, only that it does not get the halal certification because of the sale of alcohol in the premise. The Review
Enough of the info, let’s check out the tastiness of the seafood served during “Berbuka Puasa Event” co-organised by Tourism Malaysia and Unique Seafood PJ23.
A zesty plate of prawns prepared in western style with salad on one side and butter prawn on the other side came first. The succulent taste of the prawns made me re-fill my appetizer plate endlessly. They were so good. The name of the dish is Tow Varieties Tiger Prawns.
Our next course was the tomyam seafood soup. A great combination of sour, hot and spicy. The smell of lemongrass and lime leaves perfected the tomyam. I spooned the soup until my bowl dried despite the soup being a tad bit too spicy to handle.
Steamed King Grouper Fish
The main course is the steamed fish grouper fish in sliced with soy sauce. I only managed to capture a picture of the one served on my plate, not the complete fish on the dish plate. The Delicious fish meat tasted juicy and sweet.
Deep Fried Squid with Salted Egg Yolk turned out to be crunchy with a mild taste of the salted egg yolk. Good batter for the crunchy texture.
The talk of the night was definitely the Stir-fried Four Varieties Beans “Hakka-Style”. It was a stir fry of four beans including petai and it tasted really good when eaten with the fried rice. I did not know how they do it but the petai did not give a strong smell.
The Australian Fried Aust. Snow Crab with Chilli Sauce and Deep Fried Mongolian Bun. The fresh and thick crab meat in chilli gravy flagged my seafood gastronomy level to its highest. I tore a chunk of the Mongolian bun and dipped into the gravy. Fuh, terangkat!! I can tell you, this is the best crab meal I had ever tried in my whole life.
One last picture of the aftermath. We still had quite a lot of food on the table.
In terms of price, I would say the premium restaurant is for those who can appreciate strong price with value.
The Extra
EXTRA : The valley parking only costs RM7.00. It is super cheap considering that I have no idea where to park. According to Lilyriani, there is a basement parking. The restaurant also provides for musolla or surau for the Muslims to pray. Hats off to restaurant that understand the Muslims’ requirements. I am a seafood lover, and I give this restaurant a fiver.
