If not for this Kadazandusun folk song, I would have not known the importance of Tamparuli Suspension Bridge. Located at Tamparuli town, a small town some 30 minutes away from Kota Kinabalu, the suspension bridge is passage that must be passed through on the way to Mount Kinabalu and Poring Hot Springs. As we were coming from Kiulu White Water Rafting check point, we stopped by at Tamparuli Suspension Bridge.
Before Tamparuli Suspension Bridge, I noticed the huge old true as if protecting the bridge. The ghostly influence in me propagates that there must be a ghostly presence inhabiting the old tree.
As the bridge rises high above the Kiulu River, it made me feel uneasy as I walked through the bridge. The bridge swings and sways with my steps.
I advanced further and bumped into two beautiful children. When asked to strike a pose for a photography, on the count of three, we made a peace sign and smiled.
Further down, there is one way bridge which has been used for more than 5 decades. Unlike the stubborn drivers in Kuala Lumpur, the drivers in Tamparuli have to wait for their turns to pass through the bridge. During heavy downpour, water level rises above the bridge making it inaccessible by vehicles.
If you are in Tamparuli on Wednesday, there will be a tamu where farmers and villagers come from afar to sell their products and crafts.
From atop of Tamparuli Suspension Bridge, one can view the Kiulu River and its surrounding area.
