After we completed our hike to Lembah Ramma, we proceeded to the famous Cape of Bira via poorly-lit and winding road. Though I was too tired and felt asleep at times, I woke up now and then when approaching vehicles honked. It was as if we were driving along Jalan Lama Karak.
Cape of Bira also known as Tanjung Bira is located in Kabupaten Bulukumba, Sumsel. When we arrived at night at Tanjung Bira, we were informed most of the guesthouses were fully booked for police academy was having its national family day at Tanjung Bira. Lucky, we finally had some luck as we found half-renovated hotel with rooms. I took this chance to recharge after the long descend from Lembah Ramma.
As our Makassar friends wanted to be in Makassar on the next day, we only had one day to spend in Tanjung Bira. We were going for a picnic at Pulau Liukang! Before we board the boat, Iram and Andi brought us to the wet market to buy fishes. As it was weekend and we came by very late in the morning, we did not have much choice. Bun was going to cook us lunch.
The water was ocean blue! I kid you not. We had to scrap the idea of diving because it was so expensive and we could not afford diving during this trip. Further, our Indonesian friends were not licensed divers. As it turned out, the sand was very fine but I was not particularly impressed with the cleanliness of the beach. Rubbish were all over the place; they must be swept by the current to the shore during high tide. Surprisingly, when we came back from Pulau Liukang that evening, the rubbish was gone.
Coming back to the ocean blue… As we were approaching Pulau Liukang
Before cooking, we went for snorkelling nearby Pulau Liukang. If I am not mistaken, it was our Indonesian friends’ first time. The underwater view was nice with a touch of some hard and soft corals and the normal fishes. Pictures from Bun’s camera were not that nice to show off though.
At Pulau Liukang, we prepared our meals. There was one restaurant from which you could order your lunch. The restaurant owner was very nice that she gave us onions and BBQ net to grill the fishes. I guess not many people opted to cook their own meals at Pulau Liukang. Walaupun kami serumpun, we had our own ways to marinate fishes, cook rice and prepare sambal kicap. It was a simple dish but tasty. Grilled fishes, ikan goreng 3 rasa, masak kobis. Finger licking good especially after water activities.
Memorable pictures at Pulau Liukang! The jumping boys.
When we arrived at Tanjung Bira, we went straight to the cape for some shootings. We were in a hurry for we wanted to stop by at the phinisi ship maker at Tanaberu on the way back to Makassar.
We wish we had more time to spend at Tanjung Bira. Perhaps, a trip to Pulau Selayar and Takabonerate!
