I started to travel in 2009 and I have not stopped since. I’m a cheapskate who doesn’t believe in expensive fares. So you can imagine how I plan my travel in advance. Also, my work requires certain dates to be blocked. I have a list of booked flight tickets and itineraries that would last me until June 2012. As I write, I am done with 2 trips in 2 months.
6 destinations for the first half of year 2012 are all asia countries. I have covered South East Asia quite extensively leaving only Laos and Burma on the list. So here’s where I would be traipsing in 2012. Almost all tickets are result of impulse buying. Guess, the travel bugs have bitten me hard!
1. Vietnam’s Da Nang – Hue – Hoi An [done]
It was a new route opened by Airasia. So I decided to have a short new year breakaway with my close friends. My first Indo-China experience.
2. Thailand’s Koh Lipe & Koh Adang [done]
We accidentally ended up in Koh Adang where we camped out by the beach.
3. Indonesia’s Jakarta
I have been to Jakarta once. My sole purpose of invading Jakarta this time is to attend International Java Jazz Festival 2012 for which I have my tickets arranged. Sad to inform that I can’t afford to go to Stevie Wonder’s special showcase. I will miss Erykah Badu’s performance by one night. But I’m game for Henrie Hancock and Bobby McFerrin’s special showcase.
The line ups for Indonesian acts are impressive too. It’s going to happen this weekend, I can’t wait! Then, I literally have one day to explore Jakarta city and I haven’t figured out what I want to do there.
4. Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh
Ho Chi Minh trip is a request by my colleagues to bring them around. I’m in charge with the itinerary and activities. This is a lepak santai (laid back) trip aimed for historical tour and shopping.

5. Indonesia’s Lombok & Komodo Island
Dubbed the most outstanding volcano mountain in South East Asia, professional hikers and photography enthusiasts favour Mount Rinjani of Lombok. It is as if climbing Mount Rinjani is the climax of hiking. Usually Lombok will be combined with Bali trip. I just want to make a difference by heading beyond Lombok, Sumbawa and Flores.

6. Burma
A lot has been said about Bagan, I have to go and check it myself.

Burma in my list, but don’t have any time set to visit it. Missed my trip to Sikkim last year, a waste of flight ticket ) :
Went to Lombok & climbed Mt. Rinjani on year 2005. Such a great place !
Find time to go to Burma. I’m hoping the election will just come up fine, so that it’s safe to travel to Burma.
Sikkim is on the list for Deepavali. Not sure yet.
Hello Farah! I came here from Globetrotter, Lily Riani. Hehehe.. Nice blog you have there and I am so impressed with you plan to travel around in 2012. I am currently targeting to travel around Asean countries cause I had done travel almost all the East Asia Countries (Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan). I am currently in Philippines and will continue my journey to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Mind to share your itinerary for Ho Chi Minh cause I will be there for 1 week. I had did some of the itinerary but I few like I only doing sightseeing for 2 days whereas the rest seems like shopping. I not really that into shopping by the way. My email: dtgotravel@gmail.com or twitter: dtdianateo. Nice to know you 😀
Hi Diana,
Jr. Hunch mentioned about you when I was scheduled to fly off to Manila last year but didn’t actually have the chance to research you. 😀
When will you be going to HCM? I’ll be there next week. Although I have made some research, my itinerary has not been finalized. I intend to do some shopping especially on travel and adventures gears as they are dirt cheap in HCM. I’ll definitely share my itinerary once it’s final.
I’ll add you on twitter too.
Great to know another travel buddy.
Cheers and have a great day,
Farah
